A lifelong flower enthusiast, owner Marie has always been inspired by the vibrant colours, intricate shapes, and beautiful fragrances found in nature. In 2026, Marie decided to take a step back from the day-to-day running of the business. Taking on the next chapter of The Flower Shop is Angela, whose creative background includes cake decorating, knitting, sewing, and crocheting. Her artistic talents naturally led her to pursue a career in floristry. Angela began her floral education through evening classes, achieving NCFE Levels 1 and 2 before progressing to a Level 2 Floristry qualification. She has recently completed her Level 3 Floristry qualification at Houghall College, Durham.
Throughout her floristry journey, Angela has created a wide range of floral designs, including hand-tied bouquets, luxury hatboxes, wedding flowers, and funeral tributes. She considers it a privilege to create arrangements for life's most meaningful occasions, helping customers celebrate, remember, and express their emotions through flowers.
Angela has developed her skills through formal training, customer commissions, personal projects, and voluntary placements across the Northeast. As part of her studies, she completed over 300 hours of voluntary placement at The Flower Shop, working closely alongside Marie. During this time, she gained invaluable hands-on experience, learned the floristry trade, built relationships with customers, and developed a deep understanding of their individual needs and expectations.
Before pursuing floristry full-time, Angela enjoyed a successful and varied career in retail, progressing from Sales Assistant to Management positions. Her dedication, creativity, and commitment to excellence have earned industry recognition, including reaching the final of the prestigious WorldSkills UK Floristry Competition 2023, where she received a High Commendation for her work.
Angela's commitment to professional development has also seen her participate in the Harrogate Flower Show and contribute to project bids for the renowned Chelsea Flower Show through her college studies. She remains passionate about refining her skills and staying at the forefront of contemporary floristry.
Today, Angela combines creativity, technical expertise, and genuine care to continue the legacy of The Flower Shop. Working alongside Marie, she is committed to building on the shop's outstanding reputation while bringing fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the business.
